The Miraculous Rosary

You can print this Rosary coloring page here.

This past weekend I attended a Lenten talk on prayer.  The priest who gave the talk spoke of his own miraculous experience with Our Lady and her rosary.  I will relate his story and two of my own miraculous experiences with the 54 day rosary novena.

The priest whose story I will relate is from the Congo in Africa.  He spoke of how he did not like the rosary when he was a seminarian.  He had no interest in the rosary and no understanding of the repetition of its prayers.  His dislike for the rosary continued even after he was ordained. He said that his whole attitude changed towards the rosary and subsequently towards Our Lady one day soon after his ordination.

Three months after this priest was ordained, civil war broke out in the Congo. Within six months he and four or five other priests and seminarians hid in a church. The name of the church was Our Lady of the Rosary. One day the church was surrounded by soldiers and they broke in and captured the priests and seminarians. They chose this one priest who so disliked the rosary to be shot. They lead him outside to a little Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes and made him kneel down in front of the statue of Our Lady. The officer in charge commanded him to be shot. A soldier aimed and took a shot, but somehow missed. He shot again, this time the bullet not only missed, but it hit the foot on the statue of Our Lady of Lourdes. The commanding officer was mystified. He commanded that the priest should be allowed to live and he said to the priest, “You are obviously destined to live a long life!” Realizing how Our Lady had saved his life, this gracious priest vowed always to pray the daily rosary.

This story brought tears to my eyes as it reminded me of how patient and loving and protective Our Heavenly Mother is with us. I have to admit that I often struggle with actually “wanting” to pray the rosary. But Our Lady has also given me so many miracles through prayer to her and through her rosary. She always answers my prayers.

Over the years I have figured out that I can’t fix other people. When I try to fix bad situations, I just make more of a mess of things. It is the hardest thing to surrender life situations to God and Our Blessed Mother, but I have found that it is worth letting go. Here are two miraculous examples of how two people in my life were changed when I gave them up to Our Lady through praying a 54 Day Rosary Novena.

The first miracle happened when I prayed a rosary for 54 days for a friendship. Years ago I ended a friendship with someone who had betrayed me. While I did not want to be friends, I always desire to be at peace with people. Well, my x-friend refused to speak to me. She set out to murmur against me and to turn up her nose at me when she would see me. So I prayed the 54 Day Rosary Novena for this situation. Would you guess that when on day 54 my x-friend saw me at church, she smiled and hugged me? We had not spoken in years, but that day all of the anger and animosity ended and we sat down on a bench outside of church and told each other about our lives.

The most recent miraculous intervention by Our Lady happened in February of this year. I had not heard from a family member for probably two years.   I found out that this person resented me and was envious of my life (You know, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence kinda thing.)   This family member refused to even acknowledge me.   This made me very depressed and distressed because I was once very close to this person whom I love dearly. So in my realization that I could not change things on my own, I once again turned to Our Lady of The Rosary and prayed a 54-day novena. And yet again, she answered my prayers and very swiftly at that! On day 28 I received a call from this family member and we had a good and happy and long talk!

There are other bonuses for giving things to God and Our Lady in the prayers of the rosary. I have found that my whole life seems to change for the better especially when I start my day with the rosary prayers.  It’s a bit like making your bed in the morning.  If I make my bed as soon as I rise, my whole day will be more productive.  When I start my day with the rosary, my whole day is so much more peaceful and everything seems to fall into place.  Also, with each rosary I say, Our Lady chisels away at my lack of faith and trust.

The 54- Day Rosary novena is made up of 27 days of petition and 27 days of thanksgiving. You pray the whole 54 days even if it seems that you have not gotten the answer to your prayer. God often answers our prayers in ways we would have never imagined.

You can buy booklets to assist in praying the 54 Day Rosary Novena, but if you are “faint-hearted” at saying so many “extra,” but beautiful prayers, you can just say the rosary for 27 days in petition and 27 days in thanksgiving.

Here is a 54-Day Rosary Novena that you can print out:

The 54-Day Rosary Novena is historically attributed to an apparition of Our Lady of Pompeii in 1884. Our Lady appeared to a sickly girl named Fortuna Agrelli who was healed after saying the rosary for 54-Days.
